Rose Staples, 87, wife of the late Lester Staples, died April 27, 1999, in Swan’s Island. She was born Aug. 10, 1911, in Stonington, the daughter of William and Hattie M. (Matthews) Martin.
For many years, Rose worked in home health care for the elderly on the island.
She is survived by three daughters, Eva Wheaton and her husband, Burton, of Swan’s Island, Betty Ward of Warren, and Janet Gilley and her husband, Edward, of Southwest Harbor; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by six brothers and six sisters.
A funeral service was held May 1, 1999, at the Atlantic Baptist Church, with Pastor Paul Joy officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Atlantic.
