| Home Surname List Name Index Sources Email Us Genealogy Home | Descendents of Swan's Island's Alexander & William NutterAlexander Nutter was the first settler on Irish Point and came to Swan's Island from Gloucester, Massachusetts in about 1796. He hoped to find lucrative employment using his coasting vessel in the shipping of lumber from the island. He later moved to Mount Desert, later to Ripley's Neck in Harrington, then to Gouldsboro where he spent the remainder of his life, dying at the age of 96. Mr. Nutter's brother, William came to Swan's Island in about 1800. William died while at Portland in 1834.
