Swan's Island: Mrs. Amy Joyce Staples, 81, died April 1 at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born Jan 1, 1896 on Swan's Island, daughter of Walter and Etta Stockbridge Joyce and was active in Rebekah activities on the island. Surviving are two sons, Wesley W. and Milton W. Staples, both of Swan's Island; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 4, at 1:30 p.m. at the Atlantic Baptist Church with the Rev. Albert Currier officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with arrangements by the Fernald Funeral Chapel, Mount Desert. She was buried on 5 April 1977 in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic. Amy Minerva Joyce and Herman Wesley Staples were married on 27 December 1922 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. Miss Amy Joyce and Herman Staples were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Walter Joyce, in Atlantic, on Wednesday evening, December 27. Rev. H.H. Hathaway officiating. Members of the immediate families were in attendance. A party of young people offered a friendly serenade on their return home. Mr. & Mrs. Staples will reside in Atlantic in the fine house at the corner of Cross Street and East End Avenue.

Swan's Island; Herman W. Staples, 69, died Thursday at an Ellsworth hospital after a long illness.
He was born at Swan's Island April 3, 1895, the son of Warren and Lottie (Stanley) Staples. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Anah Shrine Temple at Bangor.
He is survived by his widow, Amy (Joyce) Staples; two sons, Wesley and Milton; four grandchildren, all of Swan's Island; two brothers, Burleigh of South Bristol, and Carroll of Swan's Island; two sisters, Mrs. Albra Stanley of Southwest Harbor, and Mrs. Cora Sprague of Newcastle; several neices and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the Baptist Church at Atlantic at 1 p.m., the Rev. Bruce Mathison, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery at Atlantic.
