243	v.	Austin R. Joyce was born on 29 March 1873 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. In 1900 he was a School Teacher at Minturn. He died on 4 September 1960 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Atlantic on Wednesday, Sept 7, for Austin Joyce, 87, of Swan's Island and Rockland, who died Sept. 4 at Swan's Island. Mr. Joyce was born on Swan's Island, March 28, 1873, the son of Levi and Matilda Staples Joyce. He attended the island schools, the Maine Wesleylan Seminary at Kent's Hill and graduated from State Normal School at Farmington in the class of 1904. He taught in Atlantic and Eastport before going to Norwood, Rhode Island, in 1908 where he was teacher and principal of the Norwood Elementary School until his retirement in 1941. Mr. Joyce is survived by several nieces and nephews. Officiating at the services was Rev. Earl Waterman of Swan's Island. Bearers, all former students of Mr. Joyce were Andrew T. Pray, John T. Hanna, John H. Woolhouse, Arthur E. Mason, Augustus Milner and Wilford S. Burlong, all of Norwood, RI. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Swan's Island. Death certificate signed by Dr. Harrison J. Hunt. Austin was buried in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic. Unmarried. Was a teacher in Atlantic, Eastport, Norwood, Rhode Island. Retired as Principal at RI in 1941.
