377. Raymond Arthur Webb was born on 23 July 1927 in Deer Isle, Hancock County, Maine, USA. He served in the military in World War II, US Navy. He died on 19 November 2005 in Prospect, Maine, USA. Raymond Arthur Webb PROSPECT-Raymond Arthur Webb, 78, died November 19, 2005, at his home in Prospect. He was born July 23, 1927, in Oceanville, the son of Harold A. and Vesta (Joyce) Webb. Ray was raised in Oceanville and graduated from Stonington High School. A proud U.S. Navy WWII Veteran, he was a longtime dedicated member of the American Legion Jerry Dobbins Post #157, Searsport. A master mechanic, he worked in his brother's garage, ran Webb's Filling Station and Garage in Sandy Point for several years, worked for Bean and Conquest, Bangor, as a truck mechanic and worked for Dutch Chevrolet, Belfast, for thirty years, becoming known as “The Chevy Man of Waldo County.” He operated a gravel business at one time and was also a gentleman farmer. For 53 years, he loved to spend time at camp on Rocky Pond, Orland. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Stonington and Searsport, the Prospect Community Club, a charter member of the Prospect Historical Society, had served on the Prospect School Board, and was very active in the Prospect Bicentennial Celebration. Ray and his wife attended the First Congregational Church, Searsport. A Civil War enthusiast, he was a charter member of the Richardson's Roundtable Civil War Group which was instrumental in the research and publishing of Soldiers In Green. Ray was a well thought of, humorous, outgoing gentleman who enjoyed telling stories and loved his grandchildren. He will be missed by many.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lurline (Taylor) Webb of Prospect; four children, Brenda Jones and her fiancée, Steve Cooper of Penacook, N.H., Audrey Swanton and her husband, Joel of Holden, Harold Webb and his wife, Charlene of Bucksport, Lucy Hardy and her husband, David of Wells; brother, Alan Webb and his wife, Myrna of Stonington; six grandchildren, Paul and Katherine Jones, Winfield and Samuel Swanton, William and Kara Hardy; many beloved nieces and nephews; several in-laws; numerous friends. In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by two brothers, Russell Webb, Carlyle Webb.
Visitation for family and friends was November 21, 2005, at the Young Funeral Home 31 West Main St., Searsport. A funeral service was held November 22, 2005, at the First Congregational Church, Searsport, with the Rev. Arlin Larson officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Prospect. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the First Congregational Church, Searsport P.O. Box 261 Searsport, ME 04974 or the American Legion Post #157, Stockton Springs, ME 04981.
Raymond was buried in Maple Grove cemetery, Prospect.
