Swan's Island; Howard Staples, 92, died Friday at a Sullivan nursing home after a long illness.
He was born here, Dec. 22, 1874, the son of Augustus and Abbie (Barbour) Staples.
He was a member of the I.O.O.F. at Southwest Harbor and the Swan's Island Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon for many years.
Surviving are his widow, Hazel (Stockbridge) Staples; two sons, Loel and Norman, all of Swan's Island; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Swan's Island Baptist Church with the Rev. Bruce Mathewson officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Fernald Funeral Chapel in Mt. Desert, Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. He was buried on 27 March 1967 in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic.
