Atlantic, Swan's Island: Loel L. Staples, 65, died July 8, 1982, at a Mount Desert Island hospital. He was born March 19, 1917, son of Howard and Hazel Stockbridge Staples. He was a graduate of Higgins Classical Institute in the class of 1935. He served as selectman and on various committees on the island for many years, including the committee to obtain a ferry service to the island and the electrical Co-op. He was president of Atlantic Improvement Society and served as a deacon in the Atlantic Baptist Church. He was a lifelong island resident and lobsterman. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marion and is survived by his present wife, Virginia Tinker Staples; two sons, Loel Jr. of Lisbon Falls, and Robert of Holden; a brother, Norman of Atlantic; and his mother, Hazel, of Atlantic; five grandchildren, Betty Ann, Joanna, Julie, Matthew, and Angelo; three nephews, Terry, Peter and Timothy. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Atlantic. He was buried on 9 July 1982 in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic.

Loel Leroy Staples Sr. and Marion Barker were married on 18 June 1939 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. Marion Barker was born on 16 February 1918 in Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA. She died on 15 November 1964 in Bar Harbor Hospital, Maine, USA. MARION STAPLES
Swan's Island: Mrs. Marion M. Staples, 46, died Sunday at a Bar Harbor hospital following a long illness.
Born at Lynn, Mass., February 16, 1918, she was the daughter of Lester and Hattie (Tinkham) Barker. She was a member of the Baptist Church at Atlantic, where she taught Sunday School. Surviving are her father of Lynn, Mass.; her husband, Loel L. Staples Sr. of Swan's Island; two sons, Loel Jr. and Robert of Swan's Island; a brother, Frank Barker of Peabody, Mass.; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Brooks, Mrs. Helen Hutchins and Mrs. Thelma Conti, all of Lynn, Mass.; Several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at the Baptist Church at Atlantic at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Bruce Mathewson officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Atlantic. She was buried in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic.

Loel Leroy Staples Sr. and Virginia Ruth "Ginnie" Tinker were married on 15 October 1966 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA.10 Virginia Ruth "Ginnie" Tinker was born on 6 May 1929 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She died on 4 February 1998 in Rockland, Knox County, Maine, USA.11 She was buried in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic. No children.
