Second Generation

9. Capt. Martin Kent was born in 1820 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. He died after 1860. He was buried in Settler's Rest cemetery, Sargentville. Lived at Sedgwick. A master mariner.

In 1840, there were two Kent families on Swan's Island.

Benjamin Kent:
1 male between 10 & 15,
1 male between 30& 40; no females

Samuel Kent: 1 male bet 30 - 40;
1 female 5-10,
1 female 10-15,
1 female 20-30

Neither of these looks like a good candidate for Martin's father.

(Next door to the Nathan Billings family, Lois's parents).

Martin Kent, 30, male, sailor, Maine
Louis [sic] Kent , 29, female,
Georgianna Kent, 4, female
Susan E. Kent, 3, female

(the following family is John Billings, 2nd,)

The Kents lived 4 pages away on the census from Thomas Currier, my family. So they surely knew one another; Aldana probably played with my great-grandmother's youngest sister, Mariah Currier,

Considering their neighbors: Sawyers, Byards, Simmonses & Billingses, I think they must have lived in Sargentville. The Curriers lived a bit east of Sargentville, on the Reach Road.

Georgiana Kent Kent, b. 25 August, 1846
Susan Isabella Kent, b. 27 Nov 1847, Sedgwick, Hancock, Maine
Lucia A. Kent, b. 2 Dec 1850, Sedgwick, Hancock, Maine

So, they went by their middle names -- at least Isabel and Aldana did.
