Deer Isle-Ralph â€œBarrâ€ McDonald, 50, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at a Bangor hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was born December 11, 1954 in Blue Hill, the son of Ralph and Dawn (Snowden) McDonald. Barr worked at Billings Diesel and Marine for 27 years and was well known for his â€œboat rigginâ€ and experience on the travel lift. He had a great sense of humor, and loved to travel, especially to get a good hamburger. Barr was an avid Red Sox fan, and he will always be remembered as being part of the â€œMoose Island Maulersâ€ softball team and the Billings Diesel Thursday Night Golf Team. He enjoyed watching cooking shows and showing his cooking knowledge in the kitchen.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Pam; six children, Leslie Rice and her husband, Brad, Adam McDonald, Cory McDonald, Lynsey Branson, Josh Walters, Ashley Branson; two grandchildren, Tyson and Peyton Rice; three sisters, Evelyn Siebert, Donna Billings, and Judy Greenlaw and her husband, Paul; a brother, David McDonald; a special friend and nephew, Doug Siebert, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Barr will also be missed by his two dogs, Maggie and Dakota. He was predeceased by his parents in 1980 and by a special brother-in-law, Wesley Siebert in 1999.
Friends visited with the family July 22 at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Main St., Stonington. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 23, at the First Congregational Church of Deer Isle, Church St., Deer Isle. Interment was at the Hillside Cemetery, Sunset, Deer Isle. Gifts in memory of Barr may be sent to The Ark Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 276, Cherryfield, Maine 04622. He was buried on 23 July 2005 in Hillside cemetery, Sunset, Deer Isle. Barr was a Shipyard Worker in Stonington, Hancock County, Maine, USA.
