Southwest Harbor: Alden S. Stanley, 89, died Wednesday at an Ellsworth hospital after a short illness. Born at Swan's Island, May 19, 1885, he was the son of Samuel and Hannah (Stanley) Stanley. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Thomas of Southwest Harbor, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Fernald Funeral Chapel, Mount Desert, with the Rev. David Stillman officiating. Burial will be at Simpson Cemetery, Sullivan. He was buried in Simpson cemetery, Sullivan. Alden W. Stanley and Abby T. Bragdon were married. Abby T. Bragdon was born on 13 November 1895 in Sullivan, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She died on 4 May 1960 in Columbia, South Carolina, USA. ABBY STANLEY
Sullivan, May 10; Mrs. Abby Bragdon Stanley, 64, died at a Columbia, SC, hospital May 4 after a brief illness.
Born at Sullivan November 13, 1895, she was the daughter of Edward and Jessie (Noyes) Bragdon.
Mrs. Stanley was a teacher at Swan's Island for many years and held the position of Postmistress for the past 35 years. She was a member of the Advent Christian Church of Swan's Island and of the Rebekah Lodge of that town.
Surviving are her husband, Alden Stanley of Southwest Harbor; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Sawyer, also of Southwest Harbor; one son, Freemont of Columbia, SC; one sister, Mrs. George Bartlett of Sorrento; two brothers, Kenneth Bragdon of Orlando, Fla., and Fremont Bragdon of Honolulu, Hawaii; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Jordan Funeral Home in Ellsworth with the Rev. George Bovill of the First Congregational Church officiating.
Bearers will be Wilfred Dunham, Hartford Cook, Sheldon Carlson, and Norman Stinson. She was buried in Simpson cemetery, Sullivan. Postmistress at Swan's Island for 35 years. Alden W. Stanley-1811 and Abby T. Bragdon-4321 had the following children: |
