Descendents of Swan's Island's Moses Staples

This summary has been derived from information in Dr. H. W. Small's 'History of Swan's Island' published in 1898.
Moses Staples came to Swan's Island in 1793 from Deer Isle. He was, next to David Smith, the oldest permanent settler. He was the first settler on the west side of the harbor. He was a ship builder and in 1797 moved to the property that eventually became the State Ferry Landing. He had his boat shop there where it was called the 'Yard'.
