Fourth Generation

221. Capt. Orlando Trask was born on 15 September 1835 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. He died on 4 September 1903 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. Date of death may be 11th. He was buried in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic. Sea Captain.

Capt. Orlando Trask and Melissa A. Nickerson were married before August 1856. Married by Seth Whitmore, Esq.
Melissa A. Nickerson was born on 17 October 1837 in Freezes Island, Deer Isle, Maine, USA. She died on 17 January 1865 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. H. W. Small's records show death year as 1865. Not possible if Arthur born 1866. Likely Arthur was born the day before she died in 1865. She was buried in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic.

Capt. Orlando Trask-84 and Melissa A. Nickerson-13182 had the following children:

523

i.

Flora E. Trask was born in May 1857 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She died on 24 June 1863 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She was buried in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic.

Arthur Trask was born on 16 January 1865 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. He died in October 1886 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA.

Capt. Orlando Trask and Cynthia A. Remick were married on 5 August 1867. Cynthia A. Remick was born on 3 October 1828 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. Likely born at Ellsworth. She died on 14 March 1903 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She was buried in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic. What is the source of taking Napoleon's 2nd wife to be Cynthia A. Remick, daughter of Reuben and Mary Ann Remick? I can't find Cynthia in the 1850 census, where she should show with her pre-Trask surname. Presumably that would be either Remick (your website) or Staples (the Hancock Co. marriage record for Napoleon and Cynthia). Even when I search 1850 for all the Cynthias in the USA of any surname who were born in Maine between 1827 and 1829, I don't find her.

What I do find, by comparing 1850 and 1840 census data for the Reuben Remick family, is that the oldest child is a daughter identified as Cornelia in 1850. She was the same age then as Cynthia. Cynthia in later censuses was always identified as Cynthia A., so Cornelia was not her middle name. Perhaps the census enumerator misunderstood or didn't pay enough attention, and wrote Cornelia in error.

If he did that in error, and if Cynthia/Cornelia Remick married a Staples and became widowed or divorced between late 1851 and 1854, then we have an explanation for why the Hancock Co. marriage record has Napoleon's wife as Cynthia Staples (although it did not say Mrs. Cynthia Staples).

By the way, Reuben Remick and his family are found in Ellsworth in 1830 and 1840, and in Trenton in 1850 and 1860. Thereore, I question whether Cynthia/Cornelia was born on Swan's Island.

Capt. Orlando Trask and Caroline Eunice O'Hara were married on 21 March 1870 in Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA. Married by Rev. J. H. Gannett. Caroline Eunice O'Hara was born in Nova Scotia.

Capt. Orlando Trask and Abbie Susan (Reed) Gray obtained a marriage license on 4 December 1877 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. They were married on 15 January 1878 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. Married by Benjamin Smith, Esq.. Abbie Susan (Reed) Gray was born on 9 July 1848 in Deer Isle, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She died on 6 January 1921 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She was buried in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic. Raised by Jacob Reed. Parents died. Mom in 1862, Dad between 1850 and 1860. Jacob Reed's wife was an aunt of Julia Staples who married Benjamin Gray. Perhaps there is a connection between him and Daniel Gray, Abbie's father, that prompted Jacob Reed to take in Abbie.

Capt. Orlando Trask-84 and Abbie Susan (Reed) Gray-75 had the following children:

Randall Trask-86.
