Born on Swan’s Island on April 4, 1934, he was the son of Everett and Marie Staples Carter. He attended school in Vinalhaven and moved to Waldoboro in 1950 where he built boats, many of which are still in use today. On Nov. 6, 1981 he married Lucille Murray. He clammed and lobstered until he retired because of illness in 1993. He was an avid CB’er and his handle was “Pretty Oneâ€. He enjoyed the country fairs, especially horse pulling. He loved seafood, lawn sales, flea markets, collecting treasures and deer hunting. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends. Burton was a member of the Bremen Fire Department for ten years. His door was always open to the needy. He attended the Pentecostal Church in Augusta where his old friend Pastor Rick Stoops preaches. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Lev Carter; a son, Paul Carter; and a step-son Dwayne Brann. He is survived by his wife of twenty years, Lucille Carter of Bremen; two sons: Raymond and his wife Nancy Carter of Waldoboro and Michael Carter of Waldoboro; three daughters: Carolyn and her husband Philip of Vinalhaven, Colette and her husband Timothy Oxton of Vinalhaven, and Marie Stover of Waldoboro; two step-daughters: Michelle York of Waldoboro and Kristine Dyer of Vinalhaven; two step-sons: Scott Brann of Rockland and Spencer and his wife Kristine Dyer of Round Pond; one brother, Fernald Carter and his companion Joyce Royster of Waldoboro; two sisters, Minnie Harvey of Waldoboro and Mina Hildings of Vinalhaven; 16 grandchildren: Scott Carter, Troy Carter, Andrew Carter, Tony Carter, Joseph Stover, Joseph Brann, Trish Carter, Amber Stover, Mariah Stover, Nicole Brann, all of Waldoboro, Frank Osgood, Ivy Oxton, Chelsea Guptill and Jennifer Guptill, all of Vinalhaven, Rhiannon Dyer and Sydney Dyer of Round Pond; one great grandson, Jacob Carter of Waldoboro; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours: Wed., Jan. 2, 6-8 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Funeral service: Thurs., Jan. 3, 11 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Home. Pastor Rick Stoops will officiate.
