Smith 89, died Wednesday night at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. He was born at Swan's Island August 4, 1874, son of Andrew and Inez Joyce Smith. He attended the Tremont Larger Parish, Shaw Business College in Portland, and the Navel Training School at Rockland. He was a junior officer in Merchant Marines during World War 1. He was a former member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows Lodges at Swan's Island. He was an honary member of the Knights of Pythias of Bernard. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alice (Robinson) Smith of here; a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Warren of Vinalhaven; a son, Clarence E. of Manset; nine grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Sunday at the Fernald Funeral Chapel, Mount Desert, the Rev. Bradford C. Paynes officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor.
