163. Gladys Bernice Smith was born on 9 November 1919 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She died on 25 August 2002 at the age of 82 in Rockport, Knox County, Maine, USA. ROCKLAND - Gladys B. Stinson, 82, a longtime Owls Head resident, died Sunday, after a brief illness at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, in Rockport.
Born on Swans Island, November 9, 1919, she was one of eight children of George W. and Nellie Lunt Smith. She was educated in Swans Island schools and moved to this area as a teenager.
In 1939, she married Norman Russell Stinson in Rockland.
Mrs. Stinson lived in Owls Head Village and later on Wood Road and at the time of her death, resided on Rankin Street here.
Mrs. Stinson was a devoted homemaker and mother. While creating her own final arrangements in 1999, Mrs. Stinson stated, “My family has been my life.”
Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, cooking, gatherings with family, talking to and being with her friends. One of her favorite times was attending public suppers with her niece and good friend Florence Hammond.
Mrs. Stinson was pre-deceased by her husband in 1975 and a grandson William D. Stinson, Jr. in 1993. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra L. Boyle and her husband James of Lunenburg, MA, Sally A. Balsley and her husband Henry of Union; one son William D. Stinson, Sr. and his wife Mary of Owls Head; two brothers, Maurice W. Smith of Rockland, Wendell E. Smith and his wife Freda of Lincolnville; six grandchildren, Wendy, Joe, Norman, Lisa, Susan, Kristin; seven great grandchildren, Greg, Jr., Brittany, Justin, Amanda, Samantha, Alexandra and Sarah, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 28th, at the Rockland Congregational Church, 180 Limerock Street, Rockland. The Reverend Dr. D. Elizabeth Mauro will officiate. A reception will follow the service in Kimball Hall. Interment will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, South Thomaston.
She was buried on 28 August 2002 in Ocean View cemetery, South Thomaston, Maine.

Gladys Bernice Smith and Norman Russell Stinson were married on 4 February 1939 in Rockland, Knox County, Maine, USA. Norman Russell Stinson, son of William Stinson and Geneva Ethelyn Gott, was born on 21 June 1917 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. He died in 1975 at the age of 58.
