137. Norman Sprague Bailey was born on 27 June 1912 in Malden, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA. He died on 14 February 1989 in Bar Harbor, Hancock County, Maine, USA. He was buried on 24 June 1989 in Carrying Place, Swan's Island. Ashes buried at Carring Place homestead. Norman was cremated in 1989.

Norman Sprague Bailey and Margaret Ann "Peg" Hurley were married. Margaret Ann "Peg" Hurley was born on 11 May 1928 in Milton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA. She died on 15 March 2009 in Orono, Penobscot County, Maine, USA. HAMPDEN and SWANS ISLAND - Margaret A. Bailey, "Peg," died peacefully March 15, 2009, in Orono. She was born May 11, 1928, in Milton, Mass., daughter of Jeremiah Hurley and Augusta (Hanouseck) Hurley. Margaret, "Peg" as she was known to her many friends and relatives, had only recently moved to the Dirigo Pines retirement community from her Avalon Village home, Hampden. After retiring as the adult education director at Mount Desert Island High School in the early-1990s, Peg continued to sell real estate and coordinate the U.S./German Biomedical Exchange Program until finally retiring from those activities in her mid-70s. She always took an active role in local politics and served on many community boards and committees. Closest to her heart were her activities with Swans Island Education Society and Edith Dyer Library, Hampden. An avid reader and teacher, Peg dedicated her life to improving educational opportunities for young and old wherever she lived. She is survived by her daughters, Jessica Harrington and husband, Allen, of Dixmont and Margaret Bailey of Tremont; sons, Charles Bailey and companion, Robin Diggle, of Blue Hill and David Bailey and wife, Jean Williams, of Clinton, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jaime, Anna and Peter; and special niece, Maureen Connelly of Harwichport, Mass. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman S. Bailey. At her request, a memorial service will be held later this summer on Swans Island. She was buried. Before I forget it, Margi told me this morning that Peg will be buried there at the house with Norman AND Peg's mother Gussy, I think she called her. They (Norman and Gussy) are buried somewhere in amoungst the rose bush and another bush near the driveway. There's a stone there. (Gwen May)
