(Jan 14): Owls Head -- Louise Dolliver Gregory, 91, wife of the late Robert C. Gregory, a longtime Rockland businessman, died Jan. 9, 2004 at The Homestead in Owls Head.
Born in Swans Island, Dec. 24, 1912, she was the daughter of Augustus G. and Esther Stanley Dolliver.
She attended Rockland public schools and Gorham Teacher's College where she received her teaching certificate.
Mrs. Gregory taught fifth and sixth grades in the Rockland school system. After marrying her longtime classmate, and childhood sweetheart Robert C. Gregory, she moved with him to Akron, Ohio, where he was employed with the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company.
In 1939, they returned to Rockland so Mr. Gregory could assist his father in the operation of J.F. Gregory & Sons Company, a Rockland clothing store.
After returning to Rockland, Mrs. Gregory resumed her teaching career. She was a devoted, longtime member of the former Pratt Memorial Methodist Church, Rockland, where she served as a trustee, treasurer, and was past president of that church's women's group.
She also taught Sunday school for more than 40 years. More recently Mrs. Gregory enjoyed membership in Aldersgate Methodist Church which followed Pratt Memorial Methodist Church, Rockland. She was recently honored for more than 80 years membership with that church.
She was charter member of the Rockland Womens Club and a member of the Lady Lions Club, Rockland.
She devoted many years of service as a volunteer at Penobscot Bay Medical Center. Mrs. Gregory enjoyed painting, art, and especially loved animals.
Pre-deceased by her husband in 1986 and one of her twin sons, David D. Gregory in 2001, Mrs. Gregory is survived by her remaining twin son, Donald R. Gregory and his wife Mary Ames Gregory of Boston and Owls Head, one daughter-in-law Jane Gregory of Freeport; two granddaughters, Carson Gregory Burnham and her husband Robert, Erin Gregory Forbes and her husband Scott all of Portland; two great-grandchildren, Hayley MacGregor and Benjamin Marshall Burnham of Portland; three cousins, Norman F. Stanley of Owls Head, Wayne Spofford of Brewer, Glenna Aldrich and her husband Captain Herbert Aldrich of Stonington.
A private family service will be held at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
A celebration of Mrs. Gregory's life will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Aldersgate Methodist Church, Rt. 17, Rockland. The Reverend Kathleen Towns will officiate.
Interment will be in Achorn Cemetery, Old County Road, Rockland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate Methodist Church, P.O. Box 511, Rockland or Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, 04841.
She was buried on 19 January 2004 in Achorn Cemetery, Rockland, Maine.

Velma Louise "Louise" Dolliver and Robert Crockett Gregory were married on 14 July 1937. Robert Crockett Gregory was born about 1913 in Owls Head, Knox County, Maine, USA. He died on 28 March 1986 at the age of 73 in Rockport, Knox County, Maine, USA.
