Kansas City, Kansas and West Tremont: Charles R. Joyce, Jr. 55, died Oct. 3, 1984, in Kansas city. He was born in West Tremont, Jan 3, 1929, son of Charles and Lessie (Bridges) Joyce. He was a graduate of Tufts College and took officers training and became an instructor at Ft. Bliss, Texas. He later received his Masters degree in Library Science at Simmons College and then became assistant director of libraries for the state of Connecticut and later served as director of libraries for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. For the last six years, he had been director of libraries for Kansas City, Kansas. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ingrid (Thale) Joyce; one son, Gareth C. Joyce; one daughter, Lillian B. Joyce, all of Kansas City; three brothers, Weston Joyce of Fort Worth, Texas; Lyle Joyce of Newington, Conn., and Paul Joyce of Newton, Mass.; one sister, Marilyn Ennis of Rutland, Vt.; two aunts, Marjorie Bragg and Elsie Lawson, both of Tremont; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Mount Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor with the Rev. Kenneth Fergurson officiating. Arrangements by Fernald Funeral Chapel, Mount Desert. He was buried in Mt. Height cemetery, Southwest Harbor. Charles served in the military in Ft. Bliss, Texas, USA.

Ingrid Thale died after October 1984.
