Swan's Island: Axel J. Carlson, 78, died June 24, 1979, at a Mount Desert Island hospital. He was born Aug 6, 1900, in Sweden, son of Karl and Matilda Axelsson Carlson. He was a member of the Swan's Island Advent Christian Church. Surviving are his wife, Bernice Turner Carlson, Swan's Island; a son, Sheldon of Swan's Island; a brother, John and a sister Anna Wieberg, both of Sweden; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27, at 1 p.m., at the Swan's Island Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Winslow Hall officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Atlantic. If friends desire, they may contribute in his memory to the Swan's Island Advent Christian Church. He was buried on 27 June 1979 in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic. Came to Swan's Island in 1923. A stone cutter & fisherman.
