Cheever C. Ames, 69, Rockland City Assessor for the past 10 years, died early Monday morning in Rockland following a brief illness.
He was a graduate of Vinalhaven High School and Kents Hill School. For a number of years he was employed as a bookkeeper in Massachusetts and later did bookkeeping at a Portland shipyard and Snow's shipyard in Rockland. Prior to becoming city assessor, he was employed by A. C. McLoon and Company.
He was a member of Golden Rod Chapter, OES, Aurora Lodge of Masons, and the Pratt Memorial Methodist Church. Mr Ames was born at Vinalhaven Sept. 26, 1891, the son of Calvin and Elizabeth Creed Ames.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Inez Rowe Ames of Rockland; a daughter, Mrs. June Wadsworth of Ballston Lake, N. Y.; two sons, C. Maxwell Ames of Rockland and Bradford V. Ames of Bangor; a half sister, Lydia Wheeler of Monmouth, and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Russell Funeral Home in Rockland Thursday at 2 p. m. with Rev. Merle S. Conant offiiciating. All Rockland municipal offices will be closed Thursday afternoon. From 1950 to 1960 he was an Assesor for City of Rockland, Maine. Cheever was a Bookkeeper at A. C. McCloon. He was educated in Vinalhaven, Knox County, Maine, USA. He was educated in Kents Hill School. Inez V. Stinson Rowe-248 and Cheever Conant Ames-274 had the following children: |
