He had moved from Marshfield, Massachusetts to Majorbagaduce (Now Castine) near Brooksville and then to Deer Isle. Mr. Joyce and his family moved into the house recently vacated by Swan's Agent, Joseph Prince, and later to the 'Big House'. He later moved to the Eastern side of the island and cleared land for cultivation. James Joyce is reported to have been officially accepted by the Mayflower Society as a Mayflower Descendant from multiple families of the Plymouth Massachusetts immigrants and therefore allowing descendants to apply for membership.
