Arvard worked 15 years at Billings Marine. He also worked lobster fishing, as a town constable and was a volunteer fireman for Stonington. He loved woodworking and was a noted storyteller.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn of Stonington; sons, Christopher Joyce and wife Laurie, of Stonington, James Dickey of Vinalhaven; daughters, Elaine Haynes and fiancé, Bill Tracy, of Franklin, Amy Brewer of Portland; grandchildren, Jessica, Abby, George, Cathy, Stephanie, Nick, Laural and Justin; sister, Edria Ciomei of Stonington; and his favorite nephew, Clayton Joyce of Stonington.
A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Greenwood Cemetery, Oceanville. Contributions in Arvard's memory may be made to Eastern Maine Dialysis Unit, 11 Short St., Ellsworth, ME 04605. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 141 South St., Blue Hill.
