Mr. Colbeth was a member of the Atlantic Baptist Church. Surviving is his mother of Machias; his wife Myrtis (Joyce) Colbeth of Atlantic; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Johnson of North Kingstown, R.I.; one son Arthur, of Bass Harbor; one stepson, Richard Rising of Tarzana, Calif.; and two children from a former marriage; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Wright of Bangor, Mrs. Clara Pettigrew of Bucks Harbor; two brothers, Leland and Earle, both of Bucks Harbor; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will held Tuesday 1:30 p.m. from the Atlantic Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. He was buried on 30 April 1973 in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic. Elden Arthur Colbeth and Mertis Belle Joyce were married. Mertis Belle Joyce was born on 13 July 1903 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. She died on 29 March 1983 in Swan's Island, Hancock County, Maine, USA. MERTICE COLBETH Swan's Island: Mertis J. Colbeth, 79, died March 29, 1983, at her home on Swan's Island. She was the wife of the late Elden Colbeth. She was born at Swan's Island, July 13, 1903, the daughter of Roscoe and Mary (Smith) Joyce. For many years she belonged to Atlantic Baptist Church Ladies Aid Society. She was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, clerk and organist of Atlantic Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mary Johnson of North Kingston, R.I.; one son, Arthur Colbeth of Bass Harbor; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, James "Bradley" Joyce of Atlantic; several nieces and nephews and many cousins. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Baptist Church, Swan's Island, with the Rev. George Springer officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the Atlantic Baptist Church, from 9 - 11 a.m. Thursday. Those who wish may make donations to the Atlantic Baptist Church in Myrtis' memory.
