He died on 8 July 1982 in Bar Harbor Hospital, Maine, USA. LOEL STAPLES Atlantic, Swan's Island: Loel L. Staples, 65, died July 8, 1982, at a Mount Desert Island hospital. He was born March 19, 1917, son of Howard and Hazel Stockbridge Staples. He was a graduate of Higgins Classical Institute in the class of 1935. He served as selectman and on various committees on the island for many years, including the committee to obtain a ferry service to the island and the electrical Co-op. He was president of Atlantic Improvement Society and served as a deacon in the Atlantic Baptist Church. He was a lifelong island resident and lobsterman. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marion and is survived by his present wife, Virginia Tinker Staples; two sons, Loel Jr. of Lisbon Falls, and Robert of Holden; a brother, Norman of Atlantic; and his mother, Hazel, of Atlantic; five grandchildren, Betty Ann, Joanna, Julie, Matthew, and Angelo; three nephews, Terry, Peter and Timothy. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Atlantic. He was buried on 9 July 1982 in Rose Hill cemetery, Atlantic. |
