According to my Aunt Ruth, they planned to get married later but my grandmother persuaded them to move the date up because they were going to be traveling and she was worried about the weather. They chose Nov 30 and got caught in a blizzard before they got to Rockland. They were on their way to CT so Merrill could work at Pratt & Whitney. On Sept 10, 2006 she told me there was no work and the roads were a mess. Merrill started in 1948 and cleaned up the roads in a year. He traded his car for a truck and hauled Maynard Herrick's gas until he became a partolman.
