He served in the military in 1943 in World War II, US Navy. Burton died on 17 December 2007 in Rockville, Maine, USA. ROCKVILLE - Burton O. Bickmore, 93, died, following a period of declining health, Monday, Dec. 17, 2007 at his home, surrounded by his family. Burton O. Bickmore Following high school, Burton married Jeanette Hart in 1940 in Rockland. The couple lived in Portland, where he worked at the shipyard. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served in California and overseas in England during World War II. Upon his return to the United States, he began work as a self-employed builder. Spanning more than 30 years, his career took him to job sites all over the state. After the death of his first wife in 1956, he met and married Glenice Keller Farmer at Rockville Baptist Church on April 13, 1958. It was during that summer that he and his wife opened Bickmores' Beach in Warren. Together, they operated the campground for more than 30 years. After their retirement, the couple spent winters camping in Florida. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and golfing. The Samoset Resort Golf Course was one of his favorites, where he caddied as a young man. He was an active member of Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church, serving as a trustee. He also was a supporter of Area Inter-Faith Outreach Food Pantry. He was predeceased by two brothers, Earl Bickmore in 1999 and Luther Bickmore in 2000; and a granddaughter, Jessica Berg, in 1985. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Glenice Bickmore of Rockville; his daughters, Becky Bickmore and her companion, Clayton Howard, of Damariscotta and Joyce Farmer Berg and her husband, Rod, of Ridgewood, N.J.; a grandson, Andrew Berg and his wife, Erin, of Bend, Oregon; two great-granddaughters Lucie and Kate Berg, both of Bend, Oregon; and his beloved cat, “Frisky.†A celebration of his life was held 2 p.m. Friday at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. The Rev. Branan Becknell officiated. Interment will be announced in the spring.
